You state that "we do not want to use SAP to schedule and manage our classes". If that is the case,use Personnel Administration (PA) infotype 22 - Education. Make sure you turn integration off between PA and TEM, you will then be presented with a set a configuration tables to create the course catalog to support infotype 22. You will be able to use this infotype 22 to capture both Academic degrees and Workforce Training and any other type of education/training. Simple and standard SAP solution for capturing workforce training history if you are not using TEM for course/attendee management.
