Sorry for no response but things are a bit busy - so I still haven't got a
definitive things to do list.

However to make sure that your partner is determined you need to put a
sequence number on the selection (Higher than the Sold to party i.e. 1 is ok
if nothing on SP otherwise higher) so that the PE function is executed
later.

I tried this briefly and with this selection I could then not delete the
partner from the procedure getting the same kind of message as for any
other.

So I would recommend reading the help on all of the fields that you have to
set and making sure that you have tried setting each carefully.
