[sap-acct] Asset Value Date in Settlements (CJ88)

Is there a way to set the asset value date in the settlement selection screen (CJ88) to default to the current date?
I changed configuration to default to the current date at the following location, however the current date is not being used in CJ88:
SPRO - IMG - Financial Accounting - Asset Accounting - Transactions - Specify How Default Asset Value Date is Determined - Define variant for determining default asset value date - SAP_DEFAULT - Settlement of AuC - Primary rule set to "8".
Am I misunderstanding what the "Specify How Default Asset Value Date is Determined" config is used for?
We are on 4.7.
