Hi Guys,
I wouldn't dare to edit the standard status table.
We had a similar requirement, we solved it by copying standard workflow and adding an additional review step before pushing the data to the next approver/reviewer.
Perhaps an alternative worth to investigate too.

I understand. I believe your proposal of using a custom field would work. What you can do is and the custom field as you had suggested and then utilize one of the CATS Approval methods to check that an entry has been reviewed before it receives an official approval.
