ETM can be used for own equipment and/or rented (leased) equipment.

My understanding is that ETM applies to companies who own equipment which they rent out to customers. I'm not aware of a ready-built solution within standard SAP for customers to manage equipment they rent from others.

We built a solution using RLM (part of IS-OIL), which adds additional (rental) elements into the services specification on purchase orders, in conjunction with serialised equipment records to manage this process, along with automated SES generation for the rental cost. I can share a presentation I gave at SAPPHIRE/ASUG about 3yrs ago if you want more details. Bear in mind you would need RLM (Remote Logistics Management) to make it work.
