Reply from asim001 on Dec 16 at 1:52 AM It makes little sense to have a negative asset, in accounting terms this is actually a liability. SAP will act as a way to reduce the value of an asset, and if it is negative that means having a positive depreciation expense to bring the value of the 'asset' towards zero. In these circumstances, it is not normal to configure SAP this way. The accounting team would normally have a specific liability account established for the item (e.g. provision for doubtful debts-although this may be automated through customer loans, provision for legal liabilities) which they would manually adjust to reflect the latest estimate of write-offs/write downs. The other option is that this is not a real liability, and is actually 'contingent' on something else happening. The only exception to this I can think of may be in mining where restoration and environmental works need to be undertaken once mining has ceased and that the expense charge is a stable amount. This may be found perhaps in real estate management within the leasing area but that's all I can think of. Good luck
