Reply from ChrisO on Nov 8 at 8:59 AM Batch traceability would offer lots of help. Using Purchase Info Records you could have one material code set up with several vendors, each with their own terms and conditions. Stock identification (by vendor) would be at batch level. Ideally with batch management you should allow the system to allocate batches - this can be overridden such that specific batch identities were wanted (to identify different vendors with in batch i.d.) this could be done. If not batch management, you could try this - a bit clumsy but should work. Let's call the BoM item in the manufactured part 'X'. X has a material code and is set as a manufactured product, rather than a raw material/purchased item - this is because, for each vendor of X, you have another material (say A, B, C, etc - one for each vendor), from which X is 'made'. X thus has a set of BoMs, one for each of A, B, C, etc, on a 1:1 basis X-A, X-B, etc. When demand to make the finished demand creates demand for X (X is never held in stock), supply of X can be effected by production from one of A, B, C, etc.. There's no real physical 'production' - the production order simply converts A or B or C, to X. (You could also do this by plant to plant transfer as an IM/WM movement but this would be ad hoc and not planned). The plus side of this is that your stock of X is actually visible as stock of A. B. C. etc. Hopethishelps ChrisO

Usage of all the possible brands gives the same end product. We do not want to produce variants of our products. Our problem is that different manufacturers produce equivalent ROH materials that are interchangeable, and we want to buy the different alternatives for the same material number that is used in the BOM. The different alternatives need to be maintained separately in stock to allow traceability of their usage in our end products. Opening of separate material codes for same generic material such as PC (ROH) raw materials from different vendors or brands is not suggestible Please give your valuable feedback on this matter & support Regards, Rakesh | | Reply to this email to post your response. __.____._ | _.____.__ |
