German language may help in case you are very good at your core skill -
only in case you work in germany.

Why do you want to shift to SAP at this age of 40? What's stopping your
growth and motivation in your existing field? We need further info.

A shift at 40 would mean your team members will be 10 years younger than
you and your former colleagues will be in ten years ahead of you - always.
They will be in senior management positions like AVP, VP or President when
in SAP you will be like 2-3 years of experience. There will be a dip in
both salary and position, a setback of 10 years behind people your age also
if you start at 40 you will be considered as a novice in SAP until you are
45- at least five years in the field, are you ready for this setback? if so
why?

Also considering 60 as a tentative retirement age - you have only 20 more
years in the industry instead of 30 years your current colleagues have.
They will be able to make more money and go higher in the corporate ladder
just as they had more time with them.

All such considerations are under normal conditions. In case you get into
SAP in a niche area which is in high demand and competition is less such
preconditions may not apply. But which is such a field?

What is your motivation to get into SAP? Salary, Growth, Retirement
Planning, SAP Technology or are you just enamored/infatuated by SAP?

What is your current skill and how can it contribute to SAP ecosystem? How
much demand does SAP ecosystem have of it?

If you answer all these questions, you will clear all your doubts.
