I would have to delve deeper into your requirements, but off the top of my head, it sounds like you could set up the "readings" as non-inventoried materials. You could set up customer-specific pricing for those materials, and invoice them through SD. All of that could be done by using SD, including setting up the customers, but if you already have CRM, I'm sure the SD and CRM could be used in concert.
Not sure you would need to export the info if you have real invoices to send, but there are standard SAP reports that could be used to create downloadable reports that could be sent to Excel. I had folks who could write ABAP reports that could create the spreadsheets and email them to anyone using the SAP MAPI programs.
Is that the kind of info you were looking for?

Which SAP product to choose? I take meter readings on a monthly basis, Currently we use MS Access to store the readings and print invoices. Can SAP undertake this task and export to an excel spreadsheet? I wish to use a scanner to enter the readings into the software program and then have the software program export the readings and usage in a pre-defined format to an Excel sheet.
The output has to be in the pre-defined format as it goes to an external customer. Currently we enter the data three different times to three different packages to produce this output. Lots of room for errors, costly and time consuming.
I would like to simply scan these readings in and have the scanner download the data to something like a CRM package to then export to the external customer, and have the package store the data for later review, should queries from customers arise.
