For instance, if you type " A - word to" MS Word will turn the hyphen into a long hyphen. But SAP doesn't know what a long hyphen translates to. So it replaces it with a # meaning something un translatable. Try looking at it in debug. See what it's ascii is and what it should have been translated to. In a previous company, I built an exit in write_text that forced the user to change the bad character before allowing a save. Neal
