The bank and yourself need to agree which posting codes they will use and you have to configure those posting codes in SAP. There is some configuration to be done. Tag 86 is for information purposes so the lenth is irrelevant unless you are using it for clearing. I have set up MT940 to do my Automatic Bank reconciliation and has been working well.

I have to load the electronic bank statement for Citibank in format MT940 but I am getting 2 issues:
1) The external operation is not identified in tag 61 it is identified in tag 86 (the first 3 digits)
2) The length of tag 86 is too long
Question:
Is Citibank MT940 format different to SAP MT940? and Is Citibank MT940 format supported by FF_5 transaction SAP?
