1. Open Query Designer
2. Open the Query
3. Expand the key figures
4. Right click on key figure and select "New Formula"
5. Right click on the Created Formula 1 and select Edit
6. Change formula editor screen will open
7. In the left bottom screen you will see the heading-Available operands
8. Expand the key figure which is listed under available operands
9.You will see formula variable
10. Right click on formula variable and select "New Variable"
11. Edit it
12. Change variable screen pops up.
13. Supply description and Technical name.
14. Look for Type variable and notice that Formula is listed in editable
form(Greyed out)[?]{If not, all above steps are useless}
15. Select Processing By as Replacement Path(Usually this option comes up
by default)
16. Select needed Reference Characteristic.
17. Go to Replacement path tab and supply the details of the selected
characteristic
18. Go to Units tab and select appropriate units.
19. Save[?]
Usually Restricted Key figure serves the business needs. I am curious to
know your business requirement of a formula variable.
You can see formula variable in one of the custom queries under SD-Delivery
if you get confused by above steps.
