Maybe there is an option to use several parallel processes that all take care of part of the data to be processed. (RFC starting new task or via webservice)

You could use hashed tables to hold the spool. They maintain less information for each entry and they work faster. (I have programs that read over 3.5 million rows. It takes sometime to fill the table but they work fine.)
