The sales order type can be configured to select a schedule line category that can be linked to an assembly order. PP04 is the standard order type for assembly orders so you could copy that and create another assembly order type. Each can be linked to the sales order schedule line category.

In SAP the production order type determination is based on plant settings, then from the MRP group then production scheduler profile, but I need to find a way to determine it based on sales order type and plant. Example Sales order type A (customer specific) will generate production order type A Sales Order type B (also customer specific) will generate production order B both sales orders are for the same material.
