Reply from john.louk on Feb 25 at 3:32 PM Nearly 50 fields. That seems quite suspect as to the purpose and need that these should be on MARA. It should involve a good bit of thought and analysis before adding fields to any SAP table. That is not to say that it is wrong to add fields. But, it should not be taken lightly. On master data tables (like MARA), there should not be any transactional type data appended to the table. It might be that the field is going to help control the process then it is likely you would extend SAP. The other thing is you can also do this with custom tables. So, I would imagine there is a good deal of subjective opinions this whole topic. One other thing is the use of the ExtensionIn and ExtensionOut structures in BAPIs. These are limited to 960 characters. So, if you Append in in a include (or you use an Include delivered by SAP for custom fields), it might be that you exceed the limit of the extension structures. Cheers, John

Hi everybody, I have appended a structure in MARA a long time ago to add 10 new custom fields and so far good with development with screens and performance while users using MM01/MM02. Now I have a similar requirement to add close to 50 fields (don't ask why) to MARA again my questions should I added them to the same structure I created a long time ago or should I append a new structure? My other question is there any issue on me keep adding new fields? Performance or any other issue? Any other consideration on adding fields to standard tables? Thanks, neo | | Reply to this email to post your response. __.____._ | In the Spotlight Become a blogger at Toolbox.com and share your expertise with the community. Start today. _.____.__ |
