business partner is a cross application component and can be used for example by FI, SD and Industry Solutions (IS).
In Customizing can the central settings defined by Cross-Application Components --> SAP Business Partner and the specific options by othes areas, e.g. IS Customizing.
For CRM can also be defined a replication with other components e.g. same customer number for master Data f?r CRM and SD.
