Question from R. N. Wilhite on Apr 3 at 10:08 AM
Note 725468 / 1496424

Summary
Symptom

ALV layouts previously created from SAP queries no longer function correctly after you upgrade to Basis Release 6.x or higher. In particualr, far too many fields are hidden.
Other terms

SAP Query, ALV layout, upgrade, old/new generation, field catalog, field name
Reason and Prerequisites

As of Release 6.x, certain queries are generated using a new procedure. An important element of this new generation is the use of a dictionary structure for the data to be output. The field names of the output structure must meet the dictionary restrictions and that is the reason why the field names that are used in the ALV layout variants change for some queries.
Solution

The specified report converts ALV layout variants (where possible) by converting the field names used there.

RSAQ_TRANSFORM_ALV_LAYOUT
This report is used for the layouts of a query.
As selection parameter, specify the query, the relevant query user group, and the query work area.
You must also select the direction for the transformation.
"old-> new"
The layouts were originally created for a query in accordance with the old generation (default).

"new -> old"
The layouts were originally created for a query in accordance with the new generation.

Also refer to Note 723577.
Note that a layout generally only ever works for either the old generation or the new generation. This means specifically that layouts may only be converted if the underlying query is also generated again.

Use the current version of the report contained in Note 1496424.
