Reply from wnash7658 on Apr 18 at 8:38 PM Yes a period variable can assist with dynamic columns and I used this all the time YTD reports vs other values.
The issue comes when a characteristic is used Cost Centres, etc. In BW you can use the "hierarchy" concept and the columns will expand based upon the data in the hierarchy.
Another example, my Client uses the Ext. Material Group to hold the "Brand" and they prefer to use the column to hold this data in the CO-PA report. So when a new Brand is used we must add a new column to the report.
Lastly, I guess this comes down to "on the fly programming" or what my client calls "pivot tables". Another ERP in
China called Kingdee can do this dynamic reporting without a dara warehouse.

I'm trying to determine how much is Report Painter and Report Writer used by other SAP customers. Our implementation partner says it is an old tool and not used much.
