Hi,

Payroll area depends on
- pay period like weekly, monthly,
- pay period start / end dates
- payment date - pay date may be the same as pay period end date or otherwise.
- payroll posting date

It does not depend on employee group or other factors. When creating a new org assignment for an employee, it can be defaulted with the feature ABKRS, but still be changed if required.

As the others said, payroll or posting is run by payroll area.

Payroll area change for an employee is done usually at the start of a pay period.
It can be on any day generally. However, this creates a WPBP split in the payroll run. Some times change within a period can cause problems like incorrect payments, etc.
The payroll schema/PCRs need to cater for this.

When changing payroll area or any other empl data for several empl, it can be done using using LSMW.

Regards,
JG
