If you are embedding it in a column, then you should be in full control of what it says in that column, but now I'm confused because you say it has come up as a selection criteria. That shouldn't be - only the current year (LJ) should appear. VJ should be calculated from LJ. I have many reports like that and SAP does not ask for a prior year. I'm sorry, but I don't know where to go with this one.
Anybody else have any ideas to help Ernesta?

I' using variables Fiscal Year 1GJAHLJ and Previous Year 1GJAHVJ in my report, but the variable 1GJAHVJ is displayed on the selection screen as Current Year, which confusing the users who are running the report.
Can I change the description of the variable (GS12 didnt work) or completely disable from being displayed on the selection screen.
You input is very valuable.
