I do not think that you are missing any path. Just check ( using T Code :
AO21 ) the maintenance level of the asset for the screen lay out rules you
have specified. You would see three levels of maintenance ( as three
check boxes ) a. At Asset Class Level b. At Main Number Level and c. At Sub
Number Level. IF the level is at Asset Class Level, then an edit facility
is not allowed. Main Number Level Maintenance offers more freedom to edit
whereas Subnumber Level Maintenance offers you a maximum degree of freedom
to edit data contents in the asset master record.

I'm created new asset class "A" and used screen layout "2000" , dep. layout (OAYZ) "1000" same as asset class "B". But asset class "A" can't change dep.key in as92 but asset class "B" can changed.
Which path am I missing?
