What I always do is a convert to text of the column. Once in the excel sheet, choose the particular column and do a convert to text for indexces that you use as base to do the vlookup

To search using vlookup on this kind of columns you can add &"" to your field. e.g.: v_lookup( mycode&"" ; $A$D; 2; false).
