What I always do is a convert to text of the column.
Once in the excel sheet, choose the particular column and do a convert to text for indexces that you use as base to do the vlookup

In my experience the download of codes from SAP is always made using Text format (i.e. vendor code 10151 is downloaded as "10151").
To search using vlookup on this kind of columns you can add &"" to your field.
e.g.: v_lookup( mycode&"" ; $A$D; 2; false).
If mycode is number it is changed to text before the search, while if it is text it remain unchaged and your search doesn't fail.
