This is all standard EDi IDocs, not sure I would be wasting time creating all this again, unless you are into inventing wheels in a big way?
Customer sends you a standard ORDERS IDoc out of their PO, you use this as a inbound Sales Order ORDERS IDoc in your system. If you set up info records on their side (purchasing) or on your side (customer) then this should deal with the material conversion without any coding. The inbound process for ORDERS has easy to use EXITS as well to achieve just about anything you need.
ORDERS is the example message type when learning IDocs, just google it?

Dear ABAP/ALE/SD/MM experts,
Can any one help/suggest on following requirement.
We are in SAP 4.6C. We are supplying our material to one of our customers who is having SAP (4.6c). When customer saves and releases his purchase order, his system should trigger creation of sales order in our system by taking his purchaser order number, price and material. Subsequently, on saving sales order in our system, system should update our sales order number in some field of purchase order of customer's system.
The material numbers are not unique between the two systems.
I understand that through ALE/BAPI we can achieve this, but I do not know how to proceed. I had gone through the sap documentation but could not succeed. I have a knowledge of ABAP, SD and purchaser order related functionality.
Any suggestion/help on the subject is appreciated.
