You can upgrade IDES, I've done it before 2-3 years back

For IDES you can not upgrade, I Hope. You can install a fresh EHP4 system as
you said.

But for your EC1 system, you can upgrade to EHP4 as dual stack if your
source system is dual stack. EHP4 direct installation will not support dual
stack but still you can upgrade to EHP4 from your ECC6 system as dual.
