Hello GSK,

To begin, Record Types F (SD Billing Data) and B (Direct FI Postings) are records in CO-PA. Every posting in CO-PA is identified by Record Type (just like Document Type in FI).

When you see freight cost in CO-PA for Record Type F, it is either part of product cost (calculated for inbound when the material was costed) or a separate condition type in Sales Order Item (for outbound freight cost).

The inbound freight is simply an allocation on product cost for 1 unit/batch of selling material. when the inbound freight is allocated to product cost (the credit is given to the cost center for such freight cost). The same cost center gets the cost when freight cost is actually incurred for inbound materials.

Record Type B are direct posting from FI to COPA. The CO Account Assignment is Profitability Segment (PSG) instead of Cost Center (CTR) or Order (ORD), etc. This is the cost directly updated in COPA (of course via FI) since it is not posted anywhere else.

The data flow in short is FI-GL --> CTR/ORD/SDI/WBS/NWA --> PSG. This will give you profitability from FI-GL and CO-PA matched.

I hope this gives you some insight about CO-PA module.

Subject: Freight Cost in CO-PA Vs Freight Cost in FI

Hello,

I am new to SAP. I found out today that our Freight cost in COPA is different from freight cost in G/L account. When I tried to investigate, I was told that It is due to the fact COPA has record type 1 and F only and not record type B which are in FI. That's why Freight cost in COPA transaction is almost half of that in FI. As I am new, can anybody explain me what does it mean? What are record type 1; F and B. and why copa does not have record type B. I tried SAP help but it was extremly difficult for me to understand as I am looking for straight forward example based answers (I am like a layman). Can anybody help please?

Thanks & regards,
GSK.
