I too would like to see a bit more effort put in before posting questions.? As stated, we all have jobs and want to help but to fully analyze an issue and give precise details of what is needed to correct it, could end up being like another full time job.

If you truly want to learn and be a good consultant, you need to put some of your own time into attempting to analyze and resolve an issue.? Having someone provide you with answers for every question, does not a good consultant make.? There are some great tools in SAP and provided by SAP that can answer many of the questions I see posted here.? For instance, OSS, SAP Help, IMG documentation, program documentation, SAP Press publications, SAP Insider newsletter, etc.

no we are not getting sidetracked here. These are important points from Waza, and deserve to be discussed. I have the greatest of respect for both of you guys (and I must not leave out VidyaDhar either). I agree with Waza on a number of points. Many people who write questions on this forum expect very full answers, but we, the people who answer, are busy with our own jobs and cannot write too much. So we try to write pointers and hope the enquirers will go and find out the rest. I, like Waza, taught myself from scratch, have never taken a course in SAP although I am a qualified accountant and business consultant so I have an academic head start. I learned by trying things to see what worked and that is what I think others should also do. That does not mean I am against sharing knowledge, as I am sure many here would agree. However, I do like to see that someone has tried to find the answer before posting here. Then I am more willing to help. If someone
simply demands answers, sorry, he will get none from me except perhaps a very short and not very polite one. I was helped in the early days by some more knowledgeable consultants and remember that, so I give something back. Also I have been stymied now and then and have posted a question or two on the forum, but only after looking long and hard myself for the answer.
There is room here all of us and we all have different approaches, so let's agree to differ, since that is what makes life interesting.

This is the ittoolbox forum where those who know help those who don't. Why
would one worry about the recognitions through achievement statuses? I
can't put my achievement status in this board on my resume and expect my
client to even look at it. So, why bother who gets what.
Sharing knowledge of the SAP functionalities cannot be a threat to anyone's
job security. The more you share, the more you learn. Moreover, you are
sharing just one small bit of your vast knowledge base. It helps one person
to manage his/her difficult day rather than build a career. To be competing
with you, the person should have the same or more depth and breadth of your
commendable knowledge. I am sure that nobody is going to be competing with
you for the next contract after learning a trick or two from you. One
would need a huge lot more than the knowledge that one gains from this board
to be a good consultant. Since I seldom implement the same solution again,
which generally are extremely complex, I have always felt at ease doing as
detailed a knowledge transfer as possible so that I wouldn't need to
revisit it later while I am engaged on a different challenge. What you have
done in the past helps others to judge what you can do in the future.
Let us put all those distractions aside and keep helping as we can!
