Thank you for letting the Group know that the issue is solved.
Yes you are correct by canceling the process a new trace file is created.

Thanks David and Laars. I think there is no drawback as the current ones are becoming the old one. Just recently to reset one developer trace i did the following
First i have canceled the root process causing the abnormal growth via "cancel without core" and then restarted the process. It created the new developer trace for that work process.
