Crystal,
1) Your functional is not performing their job. Technically, it is their job to give you functional specifications. These specs should include the exact things that Megha was mentioning. This won't get you all of the way home. SAP uses things called structures often. They only have data in them while the program is running. These you may have to trace down on your own...
2) Dave mentions poking around in the Toolbox archives and on the web. This is one great starting point for finding the data sources for your structures. It is a very good practice to explore all of these before asking a question in the forum.
3) Finally, as you said, you are a newbie. We have a forum(s) for newbies. The particular one for SAP programmers is sap-dev-newbies-l instead of sap-dev or sap-abap. Many of the rules about what can be asked there have been suspended. It's a learning environment and if your post there, we will try to see that you are gently handled - not that your handling here has been un-gentle.

I am a new in SAP, have to create some report in SAP report painter, how should I know which table contain the columns I need before create report? As I know SAP have many tables in backend, how can I take it out to have a look as a database table? thanks for your help.
