Thank-you so much for responding....it's great that people take time out help others on this site.
That would have been my preferred option...business is trying to standardise on data and processes, so order types and material masters are shared across 10 sites (20 by the end of next year) and there is great reluctance to start adding anything 'new'. I guess we'll have to end up giving the options of a new item category group, new order type or reduce the number of processes they are trying drive through the item categories....

Just trying to help you :) dont know if its logical in ur scenario !
why cant u just copy the same order type and name it with small change and use it with same itm. cat grp and use the remaining Item cat..
Whats ur take on it !
