[sap-log-sd] Regarding traceability of materials

hi,
we are recieveing material from customers. as that material is not existing in our system we are not able to track that material using sap. we are converting that material and then manually looking in the ware house where we have this material. can we assign some location to that particular customer delivered material, so we can look into the sales order and say ok this material is existing at this particular location?what can we do to track a material?pls help.
