i had a similar problem once on my SRM4.0 system, and sap note-824554 solved it.
i believe that sap recommends the following:icm/server_port_0 = PROT=HTTP,PORT=1080,TIMEOUT=30,PROCTIMEOUT=600
to allow a maximum processing time of 10 minutes.
