I have a background program that runs daily to check for certain roles and name changes. We only have HR & payroll and Org Management modules and use a combination of position based security and direct assignment of some Portal/ESS roles.
This program compares the name on IT0002 with the name on table ADRP and if different uses BAPI_USER_CHANGE to make the name change.
I do not know how much this will help.

If you maintain infotype 105, you must make a change to that too.
