Yes, you can.
I see only one advantage: you don't have to create a second characteristic with the same meaning (which wouold be redundant info). In other words you can use the same characteristic (code) for entering quantitative and qualitative results in different inspection plans by adapting the quant. or qual. setting in the inspection plan. __.____._
