Hi,
Before the version 4.5 the time recording systems could interface with the sap systems through transreciever based transfer (via the older communication channel CC1) and from 4.5 onwards this older version continued to be supported and the another new method through HR-PDC BAPI was added.
Via HR-PDC, both personnel time events and employee expenditures (external wage types, cafeteria or service station data) can be uploaded to R/3 Time Management and clocks from companies like Kronos are sap certified clocks as they are HR-PDC compliant.
Now CATS and Kronos or other clocks would record times ultimately into sap time infotypes so both systems can co exist and there is no requirement for any interface between both systems as these days with the time clocks providing two way data maintenance would touch the time infotypes, so would the CATS system.
However, here again i go by the assumption that the plant employees working in shifts would use the Kronos clocks and the office staff/service staff/project staff would be possibly using CATS.
The collision checks would happen through time infotypes.
