When users have certain way of identification of material part number or
vendor name, depending on product type, usage, classifications etc for
material or tax categories or locations for vendors or customers. Normally
business decides to go for external number. So that they can identify with
the number itself which category material belongs or vendor/customer
belongs.
As far as control a user who maintains this master has to take
responsibility to maintain the same. This control is not expected from SAP.
