Having in mind that a date like sy-datum is stored as an 8 char string with the form yyyymmdd all you have to do is to replace the last 2 digits with 01.

You can try string slicing:

concatenate yourdate(6) '01' into yourdate.

PS: if this a homework question, you may be kind and do some research (google, help.sap.com, abaphelp tcode... bing?)

Subject: Changing a Date Field

I am having a date field in my wa. I want to change that date to the first day of the respective month what will be the logic?
ex if wa_date is 23/07/2015 then my lv_date should be 01/07/2015
