There are many options available for you which you can consider and to name a few:-
1. As mentioned earlier you use the CATS ( Cross Application Time Sheets) for employees to enter their overtime hours for the Managers/HR to approve through MSS and store the approved hours in the R/3 system which is picked up during time evaluation run and payroll run to make the overtime payment to the employees.
2. You can also use a simple attendance in IT 2002 and ask the employee to book hours through this attendance in ESS and have the approval through workflows in MSS by the Line Manager/HR to book the approved hours in IT2002 which can be paid through time evaluation or some configuration.
3. Direct entry of overtime hours in the employee's hr time data by HR into the Employee Remuneration Infotype to make the payment through payroll. These are considered approved when viewed from the attendance overview in the ESS/MSS system once the record is created in the R/3 system.
4. You can create ask the employee to book his clock in and clock out in ESS and use time evaluation to pay for overtime. The managers could be given a report to view these and make changes if necessary before HR runs time evaluation.
All the above need IMG /other configuration like workflow's ( in the first 2 cases).
What you mean by ZL is the internal table for storing overtime hours which is created when you run the time evaluation schema/time sub schema in payroll schema during a payroll run and these are then moved to the IT table to make the overtime payment.
