But your question about Asset treated as Stock item
The answer is yes, it can be and all assets which need refurbishment, intervention for external repairs should be managed as Stock item, serialized and in PM or EAM ensure Construction type field is maintained

If an asset is treated as a stock item, tracking could be difficult
unless the parts are small in size and stored in issue stores. Some of
these assets could directly go to shops and there is no point in showing
them in stock. Even if you buy it as stock item you need to immediately
show an issue to the shop floor for tracking else it will always show in
stores stock.
