It's SAP AG's software but it's still your company's data, not SAP AG's. If your Mgt understands that direct DB access brings some degree of risk (they do understand, right?) - and they still want the BASIS/DBA to export one or more tables & keep a backup of that stale data for some specific use, I don't believe that SAP AG would care (it's not mucking about with their software, and it's your data). Your BASIS admin is (presumably) already licensed.

If you try and write some code to update & insert that exported data back into the SAP DB, that would be an entirely different thing.

Subject: SAP Licensing for DB2 User

Hi experts,

Our discussion is regarding SAP license requirement for data extraction, I am requesting you to help us with finding a reference within SAP where it states the policies. As mentioned, we would like to extract data from SAP module and keep it as either an Excel or flat file in a different server than SAP. My Question is do we need a SAP user to access DB2 database on which our SAP is based on?

Waiting for your quick response.

Asad
