This will only be allowed if you are using the custom tool to maintain your material master instead of using standard MM01 transaction to cater for your business requirements.

Is it possible to limit create/update access to Material Master object based upon the cross-plant material status field? We'd like to limit access by department during our product development and indicate the development phase using the status. So, for example, status of 01 could indicate 'concept' phase and is limited to Marketing, while status of 02 could indicate 'design' phase and would then be limited to Engineering, and so on through the product development lifecycle. We have been unable to find an object for the cross-plant status that could be added to our roles for use in limiting access accordingly.
