Reply from JG-SAPHR on Mar 1 at 5:18 AM Hi Changing a SAP field characteristics would require a good amt of code, screen details, z table, etc. For coding, you may use bADI's bAPIs, or ABAP enhancement. The field would have a data element, which can be changed to have a set of possible values. This may not do what you need. Even this would become non-standard. It would be lot simpler to a)provide user instructions (b)change the Help text for the field. The latter would still be non-standard. You may achieve whatever you want. But at what cost of implementing/maintaining and how much benefit, how much or often used? This is what you call cost-benefit analysis. Even this analysis should be done only for a task/project if it is worthwhile. Positions are not created frequently. Once a while there may be a restructure and new positions may be needed.
