if I understand well you're speaking of "download to excel" not "upload from Excel", am I right ? If not please clarify better the question.
If yes the problem should depend from the format you have set for download, I think you should to use XXL format.
1) To reset the formats for download you should set ALV in line items display
2) from the center of screen, right click, select download to spreadsheet (this operation will reset the setting). Complete the download till the end.
3) Next time you try, you should have the possibility to set again extraction parameters (select XXL and tick the flag to store the setting).
