Thanks Snowy for the reply. Unfortunately at least in my case, the process takes much longer than two hours. This was tested in a copy of the production system (QAS) and the create process using SE14 for the Z09 index took more than 16 hours to complete. The QAS system is similar to Production (SunOS/16 CPU/67 GB RAM, 25% utilized) and still took 16 hours to build. The production SUN system this is running on has 12 CPU; 83 GB RAM; and is normally only 50% utilized. I am looking for a different method to create large indexes on large tables. OSS Note 334224 shows the SQLPLUS method to create the index, but nothing about the issues I described in getting the SAP system to recognize the index.
