Do you know is there a way of preventing approved deletions from being returned to employees Universal Worklist (UWL) or if config can be changed to allow employee to delete from UWL?

Dear experts,
We have a scenario where employee submits a leave request via ESS, manager approves, employee subsequently decides to delete the leave request. When the manager approves the deletion a message is returned to the employees universal worklist in ESS which they are unable to delete.
Has anyone come across this before and can suggest a solution?
