But same we do, when we perform normal import. Then what is the real difference in both method. I would appreciate if you can provide some example.

It would be very helpful if you can help me in below query? We usually import transport from dev to quality system using overwrite option but we really don't clear about what is the difference between importing normally and importing using overwrite option. can you please clarify my query here.
