As Alok suggested ask this in SD, MM Forums too. If your post includes the business requirement, the experts can give you more-informed solutions.
I agree with alok -
- when SAP has not given something (i.e. Material etc.) in standard functionality, it is for a reason. Think, ask thoroughly before proceeding further with development.
- evaluate the impact this can have on various modules.
- & ofcourse cost-benefit analysis should be conducted before going forward.
