In some companies, the earliest retro date in PA03 is set as the go-live date. This is to enable users to retro as far back as go-live.
Having said that, the earliest retro date for an employee is based on the latest date of the following:
  • Earliest retro date in PA03;
  • Earliest retro date in IT0003;
  • Hiring date

So, even having set the earliest retro date in PA03 as go-live date, employees who are hired after system go-live can only have retro as far back as their hiring date.

Subject: What is the best or good practice regarding the earliest retro accounting date on payroll records for an enterprise?

I have recently been involved in some interesting projects that are looking at what is a reasonable date to cut off the retro. Currently I am working at an organization with a retro that goes back to 2005. The business states they NEED this but I can find no evidence that they actually utilized retro functionality past the last calendar year. Having it set so far back allows mistakes that require more significant resource consumption to fix. Any good /best practice ideas on this setting the payroll records earliest retro dates?
