Hi Carla, Yes, these steps are possible with SQL Server and SAP. I have performed this upgrade successfully. Regards From: cranece via sap-basis [mailto:sap-basis@Groups.ITtoolbox.com] Sent: 04 September 2010 17:40 To: D. Caddick Subject: [sap-basis] Windows 32-bit to Windows 64-bit path? Posted by cranece (DBA / Basis ) on Sep 4 at 12:40 PM My question is: Can I go directly from Windows 2000 32-bit to Windows 2008, sp2 64-bit and upgrade SQL Server 2000 sp 4, 32-bit to SQL Server 2008, 64-bit and running SAP ECC 6? So my steps would be: Create a new server with Windows 3008, sp 2 64-bit. Install SQL Server 2008, sp 2. Upgrade the database by using backup and restore (or detach/attach). Then point the application servers to the new database instance. Downside: Amount of downtime needed Plus: We have a fall back database immediately available and I do not have to have additional downtime for stopping at Windows 2003, or at 32-bit, or at SQL Server 2005. I know that the Microsoft products can support this shortcut. Can SAP? This is where I am uncertain because of all the conditions for Netweaver, Central Instance, etc? Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Carla | __.____._ Copyright © 2010 Toolbox.com and message author. Toolbox.com 4343 N. Scottsdale Road Suite 280, Scottsdale, AZ 85251 | | D.
