We have SAP 4.7 Basis 620 on HPUX 11.11 / Oracle 10g. Our PRD server is a rp4440 and QAS is a rp3440.
We do refreshes on our DEV & QAS systems using PRD system hotbackups (along with archive log tapes). Our instance servers are set up similarly so that we usually only need to restore the sapdata## filesystems, along with mirrlog, origlog, and saparch directories. Then, we rename the DB by getting a dump of the PRD controlfile and changing the database name to the QAS system's.
We also request a new license from SAP. Aside from that, and some minor config in SAP, (TMS, printers, user info & a couple others) it is pretty much a done deal. Our DB is 1.7TB. The longest part is the restore, whcih takes about 16 hours once you import the tapes into the DataProtector cell manager, & runthe restore job. Other than that, we just did our QAS environment that way last week in less than 3 days. it would have taken less than two had DataProtector not chosen to get finicky all of a sudden.
I would say that actual work after the restores finish, including developer validation, is about 6 hours or so, maybe a tick less.

**Note: Make sure before you begin restoring that you create any missing sapdata filesystems in your QAS system that have been added to your PRD system due to normal growth.
