Hello Mark,
Generally, the SAP Solution Manager roles are summarized in SAP Note 834534. If you use the SAP Solution Manager scenario "Implementation/Upgrade" (Project Management), you generally use the SAP Solution Manager to e.g.
- Access configuration guides,
- Utilize product documentation, configuration support, i.e. the IMG,
- Utilize project documentation,
- Use Customizing synchronization (SAP Note 552457, SAP Note 552494).
I assume your questions refer to the customizing distribution functionality?

Please note the recommendation on the page:
"You can also use authorization profile S_CUS_CMP in the managed systems. You may have to edit authorization profile S_CUS_CMP in the component systems if this was not already carried out when SAP Solution Manager was being installed. For more information, see SAP Note 492908. The Application Consultant role has all the authorizations needed to set up Customizing Distribution in SAP Solution Manager."
Please also see the RFC connections required for using this customizing/configuration distribution "through" SAP Solution Manager.

Also for this feature, I assume RFC connections required from the managing to the managed system (as per SAP Note 454898, although a bit dated). For further information please see the Security Guide of SAP Solution Manager 7.01 SP23 (or your Solution Manager release). Page 81 (of Security Guide of SAP Solution Manager 7.01 SP23) outlines roles and authorizations required for SAP Solution Manager scenario "Implementation and Upgrade". Page 85 explains corresponding authorization (roles/profiles) in managed systems - required for particular activities.

Hello , Is there any way to restrict the access to the normal SAP GUI access to the SAP client and to allow consultants to get access through solman only and they can not access the SAP client directly.
